Abstract:
Several years back, tech giant AMD made a decision many other manufacturers have or will make: it would shed most of its own manufacturing assets in favor of a largely outsourced production model.
While there were many benefits from such a move, the transformation would also bring many fresh challenges. How could AMD maintain visibility and control with this new network model? How could AMD achieve synchronization of key supply chain flows - materials, information, and financial transactions - in a very dynamic, high speed and now outsourced supply chain?
AMD was able to meet these challenge by integrating its extended supply chain on a common platform that provided the visibility and integration AMD required, aligning operations and financial processes to reduce costs and increase responsiveness.
